I saw a story on CNNMoney talking about the rising popularity of over-the-road trucking as an occupation. There is some definite appeal in this. People will always need stuff–and that stuff will always have to get to the people somehow. Yet, something like 3000 trucking businesses went bankrupt last year.
What I like about this story is the willingness to substantially and suddenly change career fields. After getting laid off, this kind of open-minded thinking is quite possibly what will get you a new job. The changing of fields is sometimes the only way out of an over-saturated and under-performing occupation area. And often, it involves retraining (there are truck driving schools all over–just google them for your area), but it’s often worth it when it comes to a new, sustained career path.
