There is an article up on CNN now about the availability of jobs. The article argues that up to 80% of available jobs are unadvertised. That is, you won’t find them in the papers or on the internet. This means that networking is more important than it ever was. Which, in turn, means it’s time to shake down your friends, relatives, even old college buddies. They need to give you the skinny on their job situations, and make sure you’re the first to know if there’s an opening.
Rather than keeping your unemployment a deep, dark secret, make sure all your friends know. They’ll keep you in mind when their boss comes up to them and says, “Hey, Stan, know anybody that’s good with C++?”
