According to a recent study by CareerBuilder.com, 47% of those surveyed report having to do extra work (or taking on more responsibility) because of a layoff within the company. In addition, 34% of workers report that they are spending more time at their offices. What it boils down to is that just because you didn’t get laid off doesn’t mean everything’s peachy. In fact, businesses that have suffered layoffs–especially the small ones–are forced to ask remaining employees to do the work of two or three people. No wonder 30% of those surveyed reported feeling burned out. Check out a great article on this phenomenon at CNN.
