United Airlines is cutting 600 of its roughly 13,500 flight attendants. This is in addition to an already announced cut of just over 1500 flight attendants. United cited tough economic times and decreasing demand for air travel as the reasons for the layoffs. In fact, United Airlines has generally downsized itself since the beginning of the year, cutting its mainline capacity by about 9 or 10 percent. United has been crunched on the other side by steadily increasing fuel costs. Not a good time for United, but everyone’s strugging during the Recession.
