The oil company’s earnings (essentially, profits) dove 66% in the second quarter of 2009. They only earned 3.95 billion dollars. A paltry amount compared to the 11.68 billion from a year ago (again, just in the second quarter). I have to say, there is a large part of me that giggles when I see these numbers. I’m not saying it’s right or that it’s good for the country, only that I have very little sympathy for oil companies that, only last year, were claiming record profits. Maybe it will remind the oil companies, Exxon-Mobil among them, that without the consumer, who they so blatantly tried to screw over by constantly raising gas prices, they would not exist.
